1.) The time required for downloading depends on the speed of your modem, the size of the file, and the efficiency of the server where the file is stored. Some of these factors vary from day to day. It's not an exact science, but here are some APPROXIMATE download times for average-sized newsletter files:

2.) Yes, you will need to have version 4.0 (or later) of Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to read a PDF-format newsletter file. This software is free. You can download it from Adobe's Adobe Reader Download site. If you don't want Adobe to send you "junk e-mail," UNCHECK the "Notify me about Adobe software and offers" and "Allow others to send me special offers" boxes before you download Adobe Reader. (Adobe is good about respecting your preference.) It will take several minutes for Adobe Reader to download; be patient! You will only have to do this once. An Installer file will be copied onto your hard disk, probably into a folder called "Downloads." Locate the "Reader Installer" file, double click on it, and follow the Installer's instructions. After you've installed AdobeReader, open it up and read the "Help" section to familiarize yourself with Reader's features. For example, you can make the newsletter's text appear larger by using the zoom tool -- something you can't do with a paper copy!

3.) (Note: When downloading, a Web browser normally asks you where you want to save the file and provides a default filename. To ensure you can locate downloaded files, specify a convenient location (e.g., the desktop) and filename (e.g., the default filename) when the Web browser's Save As dialog appears.) To download this issue of the journal to your Macintosh computer: Click on one of the links at the top of this page, and hold down the mouse button until a contextual menu appears. From that menu select "Save This Link As" and then specify Format: "Source" (if you're using Netscape). If you're using Internet Explorer, click on the link, hold down the mouse button, and select "Download Link to Disk" from the contextual menu. Next (both Explorer and Netscape), wait while the newsletter PDF file is copied to your hard disk. After the download is complete, open up the Adobe Reader application. Then select "Open" from the File menu, and open the file you just downloaded. You're ready to read Around the World With Mr. Punch! (Note: I recommend that you don't try to view the PDF file through Netscape or Internet Explorer; it may crash.)
